Life in exile as the metaphor for the broken promise and shattered vestige of radical idealism as well as the state of Neoliberalist existence in post-Cold War Europe writ large, Petzold perfectly captures the ubiquitous but unglamorous presence of surveillance, conspiracy, and betrayal. (No) inner security indeed.
